An exhibition commemorating the 40 year anniversary of the Kitakyushu City Museum of Art. "Art of Memory" means the art of remembering things, or "memory". Today, the word "Art" which is interpreted exclusively as "TECHNOLOGY" originally meant "Art". Art, which used to refer to various techniques such as medicine, speech, cooking, and memory, gradually came to have a stronger meaning as a technique for producing a work to be appreciated, and came to be referred to as "Art" or "Art".
The world of modern art, however, is brimming with a variety of art techniques, from traditional methods such as painting and sculpture to cutting-edge technologies such as computers and digital imaging. By focusing on art and technology and the ambiguity of art that crosses these two fields, we present "Art of memory (Art of Memory)" as a new art of memory that evokes our memories.
This exhibition introduces 4 groups of contemporary artists based on 4 keywords, "memory of the times" "memory of the landscape" "human memory" and "natural memory". 2000 years later, the fossils of cell phones and toys, moving shadows that cover the entire exhibition room, hand-drawn animated images, and participatory/experiential productions that respond to the movements of viewers... each piece of art in memory created in a different way for each artist (Recipe) will bring back memories and show us a nostalgic new world.
SHIBAKAWA Toshiyuki exhibited "PLANET DESK (Archaeologists' desks 2000 years later ― Kitakyushu 2000 years later)" and other works, mainly at museums and art museums 2000 years later. After researching the streets of Kitakyushu, he created the (Kokura Station, River Walk, Wakato Ohashi Bridge, Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art, Space World, Steel Works, etc.) on a desk, the street of Kitakyushu 2000 years later. ◎内容：北九州市立美術館開館40周年記念の展覧会。「アート・オブ・メモリー」とは、ものごとを記憶しておくための術、すなわち「記憶術」を意味します。今日もっぱら「芸術」という意味で捉えられる「アート」という言葉は、もともと「技術」を意味していました。医術や弁論術、料理術、そして記憶術など、さまざまな技術を指していたアートは、次第に鑑賞の対象となる作品を生み出す技術という意味合いを強め、「美術」「芸術」を表す言葉となったのです。
しかし現代アートの世界には、絵画や彫刻などの伝統的な手法から、コンピューターやデジタル映像などの先端テクノロジーまで、多種多様なアート＝技術があふれています。ここでは美術と技術、ふたつの領域を横断するアートの両義性に着目することで、わたしたちの記憶を呼び起こす、新しい記憶術としての「記憶のアート（アート・オブ・メモリー）」を提示します。
本展では「時代の記憶」「風景の記憶」「人の記憶」「自然の記憶」という４つのキーワードをもとに、４組の現代アーティストたちを紹介します。2000年後に発掘された携帯電話やおもちゃの化石、展示室全体を覆う動く影絵、手描きのアニメーション映像、見る人の動きに反応する参加／体験型作品……　アーティストごとに異なる手法（レシピ）によって生み出されたそれぞれの記憶のアートは、わたしたちの思い出にも通じる、どこか懐かしくも新しい世界を見せてくれるでしょう。
柴川は、2000年後の博物館と美術館を中心に、「PLANET DESK（2000年後の考古学者の机～2000年後の北九州）」等を出品した。北九州市の町並みをリサーチし、机の上に2000年後の北九州市の町並み（小倉駅、リバーウォーク、若戸大橋、北九州市立美術館、スペースワールド、製鉄所など）を出現させた。​（text:チラシ）
