Approximately 2000 years ago, the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy suddenly vanished.  Similarly in Japan, the village of Kusadosengen was excavated from the sandbanks of the Ashida River in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture, after ceasing to exist for approximately 300 years due to a torrential flood.  Today, our society is also exposed to a similar crisis. We are undeniably endangered by natural disasters, as well as by nuclear arms, terrorists, and various forms of environmental devastation.  If our present-day society were to be excavated as‘a fossil’in the 41st century, what kind of state would it be found in?  (text:T. ◎内容：柴川は、私たちが日常で使っている物が41世紀に「化石」として発掘されたと想定した作品を制作し、これらを様々な空間に配置して2000年後の世界を作り上げている。「化石」作品は、土・砂・貝殻等で作った独自の絵の具を、身近なものたちに平面を描くように20層も丹念に塗り重ね、本物と見まがうほどの完成度にまで仕上げる。平面の追究によって得た表現力と立体とを融合させた独創的な展示により、柴川は観る者を視覚的な美しさから、過去、未来、そして現在、と時代の交錯する世界へと誘う。今展の「PLANET WALL」は、a piece of space APSの小さな空間自体を「2000年後の洞窟」とし、化石となった今世紀の様々な日用品による構成で、41世紀に発掘された“現代文明の地層”をインスタレーションとしてみせる。また、この地層の流れを過去・現在・未来を生きる「2000年後の龍」に見立て、スパイラルを描きながらダイナミックにギャラリー空間を飛び立ち昇天していく。その中心にある「龍の玉」を「2000年後の地球の姿」として位置づけている。本展を通して、2000年後の未来の視点で現代社会と向き合い、今後の方向性を探る機会になれば幸いである。 (text:T.
